Our Beginnings

Just a few short years ago, Theatre Thirty3 was an idea that was fun to kick around over coffee or cigars; a purely mental retreat several of us had for when the daily grind had ground us down just a little too far. But (paperwork and nonprofit statuses aside), what actually makes all of this happen is you. A show without an audience is just an acting exercise, and a theatre company without an audience is just an idea over coffee.

In January and February of 2020, we found that audience. We were able to stage our first production, The Shape of Things, in association with Oakland Community College and the Detroit Institute of Arts just before the world shut down. In the challenging years that have followed, we’ve kept Theatre Thirty3 alive. Or maybe it’s kept all of us alive.
